This is another painting in this exploration of things that share traits but are not at all the same. I love the repetition of the round shape and size but total disconnect after that.

Picked up these lovely little turnips at the grocery.  They were just begging to be painted. Once I started to play with them I really wanted to introduce objects that share their scale  and contour.  The reflection of the orange fabric onto the underside was a visual bonus.

When  I finished this painting and stood back it was painfully clear that some things weren't sitting properly.  That said, I was pretty fond of it so decided to leave it as is and enjoy the error of my ways.

With our wild and windy weather I have been concentrating on some still life.  Sometimes the more you paint the more your imagination runs a muck. I have so many ideas for more veggie related images that it will be spring before I finish.

When I met my husband he had a set of homely dishes.  There was a big fit pitch when I went to donate them.  We kept the mugs.  Now I'm kind of glad.

It fascinates me how the human eye translates to the brain.  When I look at this computer image of the painting I expect the painting to be gigantic.  So much in formation in such a small space!

This is kind of a before/after painting.The jar is pickled jalapenos that I did paired up with some that just got eaten on their own.  Love the way the stems curl around and cast the playful shadows.

Did you miss me? my Photoshop program took a walk on the wild side.  PC went to the infirmary for almost a week.  The timing was actually kind of good. We had a major windstorm.  Lasted about 2.5 days.  The power was on again, off again.  Cable was just OFF.
Computer is back, wind has stopped and I'm back in business!

After spending so much time on figures and plein air I decided to do a still life.  My good friends Greg and Gary have a gift shop at their nursery.  This vase was there for sale.  Irresistible! I had to borrow it to use as subject matter.  Wow.  When you haven't done something for a while the bike shakes.  It's going to take some doing to get these babies loosened up.  Stay tuned for apple mania.

My friend and writer Diane Mettler lives in Eatonville Washington.  She's WAY out in the country on a beautiful piece of land that neighbors her parents.  Her mom and dad raise cows.  These are mom and baby very soon after the little one was born.

Relatively new to the landscape but oh, so captivating.  The wind farms have a beauty all their own.  Somehow I think you will see more of these from me.

It seems so strange to look at this and think that it was just a couple of weeks ago.  Fall has hit so abruptly here.  Everything is dreary shades of gray and purple.  One door closes and another one opens.

Love the silhouette of the silos in the distance.  When you look at all the land and think about the amount of hay and that it will all get stuffed in those towers...well it's nothing short of mind boggling.

Isn't it crazy how the time of day and angle of the sun changes the color of everything? and sunrise does it different than sunset!  Also, because I was on the east side of the state there was actually a horizon.  In western Washington the mountain, hills and ever present conifers block any distant hope of seeing the sky touch the land.

Like I mentioned yesterday, getting up early has it's perks.  This is a landscape from the eastern side of Washington state. It's a desert like environment dapple with rich agriculture.  The patterns it provides make for great painting.

This silly tray actually prompted this painting.  It's black plastic.  It think it came as a carry out tray for something picked up at the grocery.  Not by us.  Someone attending a potluck here took a short cut.  However, my husband has adopted it as his favorite carrying device for hauling corn on the cob to the barbecue and back. That glossy surface just seemed to beckon.

This is the beginning of a small series utilizing the same pose.  Each version portrays a totally different emotion for me.  Consequently I expect each painting to evoke similar differences for the viewers.

This is another one of the series I began posting.  It's so chilly here this AM that it's hard to remember standing in that hot sun, painting.
At least in this one you can see the cow.  We were actually set up in the parking lot of a little gas station/stop n shop.  It was hard to concentrate with all the cars whizzing by.  That said, several customers came over to chat.  That's always fun.  It's amazing how many people say "I'm a painter". :)  Kind of a feel good moment.  Painting can be so rewarding....when it's not totally frustrating you!

These trees are at a large park by us.  They are very old and I would wager to bet that few visitors notice they are actually fruit bearing apple trees.  At one point I had the little red devils in there but it proved too distracting.
