Somehow looking at these figures made me feel every one of my 56 years. I don't mind casual but when did everything start looking like it was removed from the dryer, left in the basket and then put on to wear?

An artist (sculptor) friend dropped by while I was working on this. The piece was about 1/2 done. I was shocked at how quickly he was able to begin telling me how to complete the piece. His approach would have saved me lots of time! but decided to ignore him. I have no idea why I'm telling you this except it impacted my day.

It was so odd to see this earthy colored scheme when all the other windows were still full of the harsh, bold colors of holiday festivities. Then I noticed the legs; what an eerie esthetic. I can't help but wonder if shoppers ever notice.

I was commissioned to do this piece by a woman I've not met. She contacted me through email. Her sister has a newly remodeled bath and an upcoming birthday. That birthday just happens to be Valentine's day. For 19 years my husband has either painted or sculpted a Valentine for me. I was honored to be asked to do something for someone else on this day that has become so important in my life.

I'm such a non-shopper that I didn't even notice the ridiculous prices until I went to paint. After doing all these pieces I find myself looking for these postures in real people.

Just when you think you've begun to understand a subject it throws you a curve. This image turned out to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. I'll be curious to see how I feel about it in the morning. I'll let you know.

This was another store in the mall before they opened. This half figure was in the middle of the room with all the light focused on it. Somehow it gave it power.

Interesting, from this view the store doesn't look so empty but the figures appear to be chosing camps. At this point I'm thinking getting trapped in a department store after closing would unleash too much imagination.

I apologize for this image being a little askew. Between my photo box and my tripod I'm having some difficulty determining exactly where the corrections need to be.

Since the stores weren't open yet I don't know why there were so few clothes hanging on the back racks. Sold out? display technique? Not being a shopper it's a mystery to me.

I get my hair cut at 8AM. long before the stores in the mall open. It struck me as rather eerie this last visit. It's not quite dark and the only live bodies are the "mall walkers"; folks there to do their laps and get their exercise. These headless bodies mesmorized me.

I'm not one for garage sales or estate sales but we live in a small community with lots of folks that have been here for generations. We bought our home from a man that had been in it since 1939. In a moment of weakness I went to an estate sale and got these wonderful bowls along with the bigger, serving bowl that goes with them. I think they've been loved a lot.

The buttons I did before just didn't do it for me. I respect those artists that can make something full and rich with simple objects. Mine just came up short. I'm beginning to think our paintings are reflections of our homes and our wardrobes. In this piece I see the busy, colorful way my home is and my closet. I like painting it and I'm liking looking at it.

I'd been avoidig this flower/plate combo because the Butterfly Bush made my knees shake. I'm glad I finally took it on. I'm quite pleased.

I'm never sure if it's growing up surrounded by Southern women or just a disease some of us are born to but I love china. Actually, I just love dishes. All the shiney, smooth surfaces, some adorned, some not; I can never get enough.

I love the idea of the smaller object in the smaller venue. After racking my brain I realized I had a whole stash of colorful (necessary for me) objects right in the studio with me. Between my artist husband and I we have 3 sewing machines in my studio. With that comes fabric, leather (his material) and LOTS of buttons. Not only do I appreciate them visually I love the way they feel in your hand. It's almost like chips at Vegas but without tempation or risk.
