"Pressed", oil on masonite, 4x4" SOLD

Somehow looking at these figures made me feel every one of my 56 years. I don't mind casual but when did everything start looking like it was removed from the dryer, left in the basket and then put on to wear?

This is Ollie, one of our 18lb. Tom cats. He thinks he rules the roost but actually he's a mammoth sissy.

"It Comes In Green", oil on masonite, 4x4" SOLD

An artist (sculptor) friend dropped by while I was working on this. The piece was about 1/2 done. I was shocked at how quickly he was able to begin telling me how to complete the piece. His approach would have saved me lots of time! but decided to ignore him. I have no idea why I'm telling you this except it impacted my day.

"Pegged", oil on masonite, 4x6"

It was so odd to see this earthy colored scheme when all the other windows were still full of the harsh, bold colors of holiday festivities. Then I noticed the legs; what an eerie esthetic. I can't help but wonder if shoppers ever notice.

"A Sister's Salute", oil on masonite, 5x5" SOLD

I was commissioned to do this piece by a woman I've not met. She contacted me through email. Her sister has a newly remodeled bath and an upcoming birthday. That birthday just happens to be Valentine's day. For 19 years my husband has either painted or sculpted a Valentine for me. I was honored to be asked to do something for someone else on this day that has become so important in my life.

"In The Pink", oil on masonite, 6x8" SOLD

I'm such a non-shopper that I didn't even notice the ridiculous prices until I went to paint. After doing all these pieces I find myself looking for these postures in real people.

My second trip to the mall had me drawn to these figures. I saw them the first time but wasn't certain how I could use them. This is it.

Just when you think you've begun to understand a subject it throws you a curve. This image turned out to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. I'll be curious to see how I feel about it in the morning. I'll let you know.

If I had known when I started this piece what I had laid out for myself it probably wouldn't have happened. It's on of those that now that it's done I keep thinking I could do it better. Don't hold your breath.

These vivid stacks of shirts won me over to this image immediately. My mind says "subdue" and my heart says nope.

"Casual Friends", oil on masonite, 4x4"

The bags and camisoles in the background made this feel really playful to me. I'm thinking they may need to come to the foreground.

"Night Life", oil on masonite, 4x4"

I wasn't sure what to make of this "figure" but the eerieness of the whoe scene really got my juices flowing. More to come I'm afraid.

There was something profound about these THIN little slices of figure. Reflective of the times?

"Behind Bars", oil on masonite, 4x4" SOLD

These three gals reminded me of a movie I once saw about women in prison. Those would be women with attitudes. My kind of gals.

"Headless For A Reason", oil on masonite, 4x4"SOLD

This was another store in the mall before they opened. This half figure was in the middle of the room with all the light focused on it. Somehow it gave it power.

"Flip SIde", oil on masonite, 5x5" SOLD

Interesting, from this view the store doesn't look so empty but the figures appear to be chosing camps. At this point I'm thinking getting trapped in a department store after closing would unleash too much imagination.

"I Wanna Be Scarlet", oil on masonite 4x6" SOLD

I apologize for this image being a little askew. Between my photo box and my tripod I'm having some difficulty determining exactly where the corrections need to be.
Since the stores weren't open yet I don't know why there were so few clothes hanging on the back racks. Sold out? display technique? Not being a shopper it's a mystery to me.

"Blind Sided", oil on masonite, 5x5" SOLD

This is another version of the headless sentries in the shopping mall. I gives me pause regarding the state of fashion and how clone like we become.

"Color Blind", oil on masonite,5x5" SOLD

I get my hair cut at 8AM. long before the stores in the mall open. It struck me as rather eerie this last visit. It's not quite dark and the only live bodies are the "mall walkers"; folks there to do their laps and get their exercise. These headless bodies mesmorized me.

These silly, porcelain figurines make me giggle. It's 21 degrees here and my studio has a concrete floor. I NEED to laugh.

"Made In Italy", oil on masonite, 6x8"

I'm not one for garage sales or estate sales but we live in a small community with lots of folks that have been here for generations. We bought our home from a man that had been in it since 1939. In a moment of weakness I went to an estate sale and got these wonderful bowls along with the bigger, serving bowl that goes with them. I think they've been loved a lot.

This red, glass plate presented some challenges I didn't expect. However, couple with the delicate little blooms it was irresistable.

"Bountiful Buttons", oil on masonite, 4x6"

The buttons I did before just didn't do it for me. I respect those artists that can make something full and rich with simple objects. Mine just came up short. I'm beginning to think our paintings are reflections of our homes and our wardrobes. In this piece I see the busy, colorful way my home is and my closet. I like painting it and I'm liking looking at it.

It's interesting; when I started this I expected a gray, blue image when I was done. My husband has always said that green is my obsession.

I don't even remember where or why I got this little urn. It's been in my studio for years, waiting for me to think about still life again. Daily paintings brought it to the front.

I'm never sure if it's growing up surrounded by Southern women or just a disease some of us are born to but I love china. Actually, I just love dishes. All the shiney, smooth surfaces, some adorned, some not; I can never get enough.

I've learned to arrange these carefully in relations to the light source. The one before this looked just like a smiley face. Not what I was after.

"Blue Button", oil on masonite, 2x3"

I love the idea of the smaller object in the smaller venue. After racking my brain I realized I had a whole stash of colorful (necessary for me) objects right in the studio with me. Between my artist husband and I we have 3 sewing machines in my studio. With that comes fabric, leather (his material) and LOTS of buttons. Not only do I appreciate them visually I love the way they feel in your hand. It's almost like chips at Vegas but without tempation or risk.
