"Thomas" oil on hardboard 6x6"

Thomas belongs to my friends Greg and Gary.  He is one serious "Tom" cat!  Always all business.

Southwest 1 oil, 8X12 $200

This is one of three pieces that could be hung alone or or together like a panoramic

"Bright as Day" oil on canvas 20x30"

These flowers appear to float in their environment.  Even the ones on the same plant seem somehow disconnected.  There is a slight temptation to paint a grouping.  We'll see.

'Fair Lady" oil on canvas 20x30" $500

As a painter you expect to make color do what you need.  That said, the particular blue of this type of poppy is amazingly difficult to conquer.  New found respect for sure.

"Summer Issue" oil on hardboard 8x8"$170

I know this young woman wasn't born with this hair color, but damn!  that makes a statement.

"Shy" oil on canvas 20x30"

This is the first of many.  The RSF has an entire valley of these amazing blue flowers.  I can't wait to have an entire collection of paintings.

"In the Moment" oil on hardboard 5x7" $99

Funny what your mind makes up about someone you don't know.  There was something Mark Twain like to me about this man.  That made him immediately more "intellectual".  We are a silly species.

"The Ringer" oil on hardboard 6x6" $99

My niece and her band of wild things went the the alley.  I'm not sure WHY one little dumpling got odd shoes....Maybe she owns her own?

"Super Size Me" oil on hardboard 8x10" $220

The title speaks volumes.  However, it was pretty much a tie for me between the commentary of the subject and the dominance of the color.  I'm almost sad to be finished with it.  This was "playing" beyond measure.

"Grounded" oil on canvas 20x30" SOLD

This is the painting that started with the smaller color study.  There may still be a little color tweeking to do.

"Ghost Tree" oil on hardboard 6x6" NFS

This is our neighbor old, majestic willow tree after this year's ice storm.  I was climbing in my car one morning and this is the site of the broken beast against the morning sky.

'Judgement" oil on hardboard 5x5"

Oh to have a better photographer! wait...I'm the photograher.  This painting is so pleasing to me in real life but somehow this image just didn't pull it off.  It is yet to be seen if I use it as a study for a larger image or not.  My studio looks like a painting warehouse these days.  If some of them would just dry they could go to the storage area.  Draw backs to oil paint.

"Overnight" oil on hardboard, 6x6" $99

There is a certain quality with interiors that makes me think I want to paint them.  Not the bright, sunny, shadow casting interiors.  Closer to night.  Who knows!  Maybe another series in the making.

"Firmly Planted" oil on hardboard 6x6" $99

This is another small study for a large piece.  Actually, there will be two more pieces springboarding from this.  The last one is a bit "outside the box" for me but I can't shake the idea so better to give in.

"Bob bob bob" oil on hardboard 6x6"

This is a snippet of what will be a much larger piece.  I just wanted to try out the focal point to see if I liked it.  The full image is pretty ambitious so it may be a while before it shows up.

"The Runner" oil on canvas approximately 20x30"

Yes.  You are correct. This is yet ANOTHER series revisited.  Maybe sometimes you just have to leave something for a while to revamp enthusiasm.  There will certainly be more to come.

"BLUE berries" oil on canvas approximately 20x30"

This is a little different in that the entire plate is visible.  There will probably be at least one more version.  It would be fun to see a cropped version side by side with this one.

"Solo" oil on canvas approximately 20X30"

This plate is actually much lighter in color than I painted it.  Somewhere along the line as the layers were applied the palette hit this hue.  I was really taken with it so decided to cease and desist.

"Triplets?" oil on canvas approximately 20x30" SOLD

Some of the sharp, high reds didn't come through on this image.  I'm so glad to be back up posting that It barely bothers me.

Monday, April 16, 2012

"Honeysuckle" oil on canvas approx 20x30"

Some of you may remember when I started this series.  It has been quite a long time but something drew me back to them.  I am 4 or 5 into the new group and quite pleased with the outcome.  Leaving the small format has really been positive.  There will still be some small pieces coming but not dominating.

"Things To Come" oil on canvas 20x30"

This is another one of those ideas revisited.  They were fun at 6x6" or so but scaling up was a painting bonus.  Bigger brushes perform totally different.  I've got a couple of new ones out in the studio that have nothing in common with all the other brushes.  I can't wait for an opportunity to plop them down in a dollop of paint.
Then there are the blooms themselves.  The Pacific Northwest is a soggy mess right now.  It's nice to have the  flowers remind me of what's ahead.

"Tilly's Head Nudge" oil on hardboard 6x6"

The look on Bean's face is like "you're squashing my eye!"  Our maybe Tilly just wants to steal the show.  They're pretty darned adorable.

"Sweet Rosie Dreams" oil on canvas approximately 20x30"

So! we have this cat.  His name is Magoo and he weighs about 18lb.  If he was a dog he would be a Bulldog.  Same build.  Now this cat Magoo HATES dogs.  He will chase them down and tear them up.  It is no joking matter.  Well, when this piece was almost complete I brought it in the house so my husband Ross could throw a little critique my way.  I braced the painting against a piece of furniture and walked across the room.  When I looked down Magoo had hunkered down, hackles up and was skulking across the floor, ready to attack the interloper.  You've got to know that the head in this painting is a good 12" tall!  If it had been a live dog it would be beastly large.  Truly a Youtube moment.

"Rosie's Beach Vacation" oil on canvas approximately 20x30"

This is the second in what is so far a trilogy.  There is so much personality in this little pooch.  There is also something about painting at this scale.  As most of you know, I have been doing the small "paintings a day" (but not really) for quite some time.  It was amazing how different the skill set was when I started scaling back up! and how energized I have become as an artist.  I can't spend enough time in the studio.  The ideas for new pieces are manifesting like Catholic rabbits.  Being home from the old "day job" for a week and having Mother Nature bestow lots of water from the sky has made it easy to lose all time behind the easel. It's hard to want Spring to come when it means the demands of the garden will have to become the priority.

"The Devil Made Me Do It" oil on canvas 20x30"

Children's faces (as in their expressions) have a mystery all their own.  You can't tell from this if she is thinking sweet thoughts or naughty ones.  I was there but I'm not telling.

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

"Winter's Rose" oil on canvas 20x30" $1,600

These are really quite large, hanging on the bent branches of the rose bushes in our back pasture, distant from the house.  It was by happy accident that I found them.  Now there is reason to venture out there on a more regular basis.

Monday, March 19, 2012

"Promise of Spring" oil on canvas 20x24" $1,200.

I've been painting these guys on the small scale for a very long time.  Something clicked recently and I scaled up.  I REALLY like the results.  I've got about 3 series of paintings going at once.  With so little studio time it's hard to decide what to tackle each session.  Pretty exciting when you see them finished though!

"A Rose By Any Other Name...Rosie!" oil on canvas 20x30"

This it the 13 year (oops!  I lied.  I just found out she will be 17 on April 1) old pup of my of my dearest friends.  She has three little devils and Rosie is the oldest.  She  has some seeing issues and isn't too spry but boy! does she have a face a painter can love.  I was a bit worried about the scale of the canvas because in real life she is pretty small.  Silly me!  that personality fills the space with no problem.

"The Eye(s) Have It" oil on hardboard $99 +$9 shipping

How DO they do that? It's as if one eye is looking one way and the other is off on its own little picnic.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

"Walleye" oil on hardboard 6x6" $99 + $9 shipping

That's the same stinky eye look my dad used to give when things didn't suit him!  you really didn't want to be on the other end of it.
